Meet the President - July 2007

In the officers mess The Russian Punch Bowl: The bowl is 12 inches high and about the same in diameter. The base holds 12 fluted drinking cups. There is also a strainer and a serving ladle. The whole assembly is in silver-gilt with cloisonné enamel decoration. It was made in Moscow as an imperial commission in 1833 and was presented by Tsar Alexander III to Colonel Sir Colin Scott-Montcrieff, a Royal Engineer and an irrigation expert, in 1890 in recognition for his work on an irrigation scheme at Merv in Central Russia
The Chinese Dragon: The figure is a scaly, horned dragon in solid silver, 15 inches long and 14 inches high, made by a Chinese silversmith in Hong Kong in 1902. It is a quarter-scale model of the bronze dragons which stood in the Summer Palace in Peking. The piece was commissioned by the Royal Engineer officers who served in the China Expeditionary force of 1900-1901 against the Boxer Rebellion. The FA Challenge Cup: The Royal Engineers were founder-members of the Football Association. They reached the final of the FA Challenge Cup on several occasions in the 1870s and won the trophy in 1875. This scale replica was authorized by the Football Association to mark the centenary of this win. Room for just one more?
